DAVID RICE: Greenelectric (Columbia)

David Rice hails from Houston, TX. His latest effort (and major label debut), Greenelectric, is an eclectic mixed bag of tunes. The first single, "Father" sounds like something you would hear on a +Live+ record, while the dreamlike "I See You" would be right at home on a Peter Gabriel disc. The raspy urgency of Rice's vocals on "Superman" reminded me of an early Graham Parker. The last track, "Watching You Remembering" takes a while to get going, but ends up being one of the CD's highlights. Aside from a few tracks, Greenelectric is an enjoyable disc that stands up to repeated listening.
