THELONIOUS MONK: Paris Jazz Concert - Volume One (Malaco Jazz Classics)

One thing you'll notice if you go through the jazz section of your local CD store is the enormous amount of older titles currently being reissued, especially Monk titles. It's difficult at best to know which ones are good and which ones aren't. One of the better ones is Malaco's recent Paris Jazz Concert - Volume One. This performance comes from the first of two successive nights in March of 1965, and finds the quartet in fine form. There are a few minor glitches in the recording (read: ones that you won't notice unless you really listen for them), but overall the sound is nice and warm, and the mix is perfect. The songs speak for themselves. Recommended.
